Getting the Work Done

Creating a Cohesive Video with a Sense of Flow

In order to shoot a good video you must mix art with industry. Video production provides real world problems that can be solved with creative solutions. There must be a strong sense of budget in order to achieve a successful production. In order to move forward one must make artistic decisions based on budgeting and time constraints. As an art agency, our primary focus is to create a sense of aesthetics that have a sense of beauty in mind first.

Roscoe Studio Tells your Story

We love to shoot pictures, and we are classically trained. We love compositions just as much as we like story telling. What is the main thing that separates amateur and  professional images? I tend to think it is lighting and framing. In the video we show you the difference between a nice light rig and an amateur video. Another thing to think of is consistency from shot to shot. It is critical to capture the right information so the shot can be color graded in Post Production.

Set and Character Dressing

Film is typically staged, and the viewers belief can be everything sometimes. People watch more films than ever these days. The best way to create the illusion of reality is with effects on makeup, costumes, and set creation. We actually focus hard on prop building, set dressing, and makeup scenarios. Sometimes sets just look too clean and we have to mess them up, sometimes, they just don’t look good on frame. These techniques help build the illusions of space, and help the editors produce professional stunning videos and films.

Still from a web commercial I shot, the model Roberta, was filmed on a green screen and I built the virtual set in Maya, and composted the piece in After Effects.

Special Effects and Composting

Directors, clients, and cinematographers all have to be on the same page. If there are any special visual effects going on in the shot, everyone should be in the loop. This allows the cinematographer to direct the correct shots, so the post production teams to deliver the best content to the post production team. Even if the project is a simple interview there can be things the editors need in their clips in order to make the piece suitable.

In 2012, an actress approached me for her audition video to Kelly Ripa. We filmed this in 2 hours and I only spent 2.5 hours in post. Although this is not a professional example, myself and the actress were able to complete this by ourselves in one day.  Though the video is really crude, I think this clip helps to show capabilities of what even low budget video production can accomplish these days.
